HaastHaast is a town located along the western coast of New Zealand’s South Island.

The town was named after Julius von Haast.

Haast in New Zealand covers about three main areas, Haast township, Haast Beach as well as Haast Junction. It is a popular tourist location but despite this, it has a small population and its economic mainstay other than tourism is farming and fishing.

The south west coast of New Zealand is the area of the country that remains truest to its rustic origins.

Haast itself can be found in the area of the Te Wahipounamu which is a World Heritage Site comprising about four parks: Aoraki/Mt Cook, Fiordland, Mt Aspiring and Westland Park. All parks are national parks and are frequented regularly by tourists.

Due to the huge amount of flora and fauna available in the area, it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
